TMC is very pleased to announce the gift of a conservation easement from Ms. Daphne Scott to TMC on her property which is located between State Road 70 and Clay Gully Road and just a short distance north of the Myakka River.

Ms. Scott owns some beautiful acreage near the Myakka River and wanted to protect her 25 acres from development and to maintain its native state and the wildlife that called her property “home”. As part of her estate planning, Ms. Scott contacted the Tampa Bay Conservancy to inquire about ways to protect her pristine property.Since the property lies in the Myakka River watershed, the Tampa Bay Conservancy asked The Myakka Conservancy if they were interested in discussing ways to preserve Ms. Scott’s land.

TMC would like to thank Ms. Scott for donating this conservation easement on such beautiful property and helping to protect a part of native Florida and its many inhabitants during a time of heightened development in Manatee county. TMC looks forward to protecting and maintaining this property for future generations to enjoy (both human and wild).

A conservation easement is a legal binding way to insure the protection of land from future development while still retaining fee simple ownership. TMC encourages landowners interested in this type of conservation to contact us. We have helped facilitate conservation easements between landowners and government agencies and also welcome gifts or donations of such easements or land to help protect the Myakka River watershed. TMC is a non-profit organization and such gifts are tax-deductible.
